Although, alone in Germany several hundred thousand kilometers of sewage system and therefore a high automation potential exists, the inspection and maintenance of it is still carried out only semi-automatic. For that reason a snake-like robot has been constructed that shall carry out inspection tasks autonomously and energy autarchic. The demanded flexibility and mobility is realized through five segments that are connected in pairs over a special joint with three active degrees of freedom. The robot is being tested at the moment in different sewer environments.
